Know your Cire De London™ Candle
CANDLE CONCEPTS
What is "Hot Throw"?
What you experience while the candle is burning
Hot throw refers to how well your candle fills a room with fragrance once lit. A well-crafted candle should gently diffuse scent throughout your space—never overpowering, but always present.
What to expect:
- Subtle at first, then gradually more noticeable
- Stronger in smaller rooms, softer in larger spaces
- Builds as the wax pool fully melts
Luxury Standard:
A refined hot throw should feel like a natural extension of the room, not an artificial burst.
This is the scent of your candle when it is not burning. Cold throw is long-lasting and for best scent quality, we recommend enjoying your candle within 12–24 months.
TUNNELING: When the candle burns only down its center
Tunnelling happens when the wax doesn’t melt all the way to the edges, leaving unused wax around the sides.
Causes:
- Not burning for long enough
- Improper wick size
- Skipping the first full melt
How to prevent it:
- Always allow a full melt pool (especially first burn)
- Trim wick properly
- Burn for the recommended time
Why it matters:
Tunnelling wastes wax and shortens the life of your candle.
Luxury Standard:
A properly burned candle should feel effortless and complete—every inch used, nothing wasted.
We want you to receive a beautiful candle with a smooth surface and trimmed wick, so you can light and enjoy it immediately.
Natural wax blends frequently have variations on their surface after curing and so we hand finish all our candles with a heat-gun, to smooth the surface. This can darken the wick. However, surface imperfections and darkened wicks are perfectly natural appearances for a hand-made luxury candles and these appearances will not affect the performance, burn-time or your enjoyment of your Cire de London candles.

A melt pool is the liquid wax that forms as your candle burns.
First burn rule:
Allow the candle to burn until the entire top surface melts edge-to-edge.
Typical timing:
- 7 oz candle: ~2–3 hours
- 12 oz candle: ~3–4 hours
- 24 oz candle: ~4–5 hours
Why this matters:
- Sets the “memory” of the candle
- Prevents uneven burning
Luxury Standard:
A proper melt pool creates a clean, even burn that honors the craftsmanship.
- Trim the wick to ¼ inch, each time before you burn
- Center and straighten the wick after blowing out your candle
- Burn candles in a well-ventilated room
- Keep the wax pool clear of wick trimmings, matches and debris
- Let the candle cool completely before re-lighting
- Burn regular sized candles for 3–4 hours at a time
- Burn candles in an ambient of 65–75 degrees °F
- When burning multiple candles, place at least 8 inches apart
- Never leave a burning candle unattended or within reach of children and pets
- Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents, fans or air currents
- A candle is in a draft, if burning unevenly but the wick is centered
BEFORE, DURING & AFTER
Remove lid. Lift Wick
Each wick is pre-trimmed for a clean, even burn.
Light. Enjoy.
Remember to trim wick before each use
Wick Cutting (Trimming): The most important step for a perfect burn
Before each use, trim your wick to about ¼ inch.
Why it matters:
- Prevents soot and smoke
- Controls flame height
- Helps the candle burn evenly
Without trimming:
- Flame becomes too large
- Candle burns too fast
- Black residue may form
Luxury RItual:
Think of wick trimming as part of the experience—intentional, precise, and essential.
Absolutely! Clean out any remaining wax with hot water and repurpose the vessel in any way you see fit.
Our candles use pet-safe ingredients, but always keep candles out of reach and never leave them unattended.
